Why I would vote for…

VIRTUAL WARRIORS

They challenged them selves to non-stop, hard core, wherever, whenever, no excuses squats and lunges  and daily sit ups to fatigue or failure.  They also sent along a video to demonstrate when and where they were fitting their leg work in  http://youtu.be/UWg5RLk6JB4

The entire team accepted the Lebert Challenge put out bu Century 21 and the warriors were also the winner of the Lebert competition on Saturday.  Th team presented a very clever and effective rowing exercise that can be done with one Lebert for 2 people!

2FIT 2QUIT (LOVE the name)

Also had an excellent week.  They set goals for push ups and sit ups. Taking stairs whenever possible and eating 5 fruits and veggies a day!  The team also continues to council and encourage one another,

BRANDON’S BRIGADE

This team seems to be doing  a great job encouraging and motivating each other.  They too set up a Face book page for daily interactions and motivations.  They were proud of their max group workouts, 120 miles of running and 3000 meters of swimming.

MISSION SLIMPOSSIBLE

The team internal challenge of 100 sit ups and an extra assessment lap after class and to give up artificial beverages for the week.  The team, voted Mini Ajmani as player of the week for her spirit efforts, and do attitude ( I could not agree more).   They also highlighted Christina for going against Leia in the face off and Pam for getting to the lot to make sure she got the extra lap in.

WAIST MANAGEMENT

Waist management is attacking the waist with nutritional strategies such as eating 5 small meals and drinking 100 oz of water a day.  They continue to train with running, and many took on the Lebert Challenge.  They also created a face book page and have used it to share snack and dinner ideas.  They team bonded together to come up with a fantastic Lebert exercise for the core ( to represent their name).  They also posted great pics of their Lebert brainstorming session on the wordpress site.  Lastly, they delivered goodies bags with a tape measure and some waist exercises to all team captains.  My favorite thing that I saw in the contest this week was a testimonial from a contest rooky that indicated a very honest and enlightening perspective of her contest journey thus far.  I especially loved that she said that while the beginning was tough, she is finding herself with more energy.  Those are magic words,

TEAM SEVEN

Has moved to habit #2 which they have translated to having goals is important to succeed.  They introduced some of the new players to the famous garage workout.  They also took on the Lebert Challenge and one of the toughest weeks of the summer challenge ( I am impressed  that hey saved this).  They took on a vegetarian diet for 2 diets and shared their struggles.  They also use the share feature of fitness pal for accountability and team recognition.  They continue to recognize their peers  with every thoughtful and spot on 7 seconds shout outs.  This week they initiated the Team 7- up yours award and recognized Les Peters with 7 things that he did well his week.

CENTURY 21ers

This team took on a fruits and vegetable Challenge and set the goal of continuing contest eating into everyday life.  The team took on The Lebert Challenge that they had offered as part of their project week.  This team was very busy this week with project week details but all information related to the project will be evaluated contest en fro the other 15% of the Team Challenge.  In honor of Lebert week, Jane wrote a very clever poem:)

Roses are red,
my Lebert is pink,
after these situps
I will sure need a drink.

… Leberts are good,
really they are,
they bulk up our muscles,
they are much more than a mere bar.

So get your Lebert
Out of the trunk,
challenge yourself
and you will lose all that extra junk.

At Bootcamp they come out,
And line up the lot,
jump in, jump out
Thrust forward then squat.

Lebert is special,
Lebert is strong,
Lunges with Lebert,
You can’t go wrong

Who started the Lebert?
that would be Kelly,
But all she wanted,
Was for you a flat belly.

So we thank you Kelly,
for this Lebert so fun
from the most rockin’ team ever…
CENTURY 21

1-16-2012

Congrats to you ALL on a fantastic start!  I am SO impressed with the teams and your progress so far!  I will not be posting weight and workout averages this year to add to the suspense of this contest.  Let’s just say it was very close!!!

Why I would vote for…

Waist Management- Love the name and that they have tied it into their goals.  Measuring the waist is a fabulous idea and from a health perspective, sometimes more important thanthe scale.  Also love the pre run to get a baseline (you know how I love to see you beat your numbers)! Great to hear that participants are already feeling better and sleeping better!

Century 21- They obviously put a great deal of thought into their name and I am very aware of how a good theme can be an amazing driving force.  Like the realistic limitations (as far as diet) that they put upon themselves realizing that 8 weeks is a long time.  100 miles of collective walking, swimming, and running was a lofty 1st week goal (especially with injured players) but they pulled together and did it!  The FB page is a great way to communicate and avoid too many emails.  I especially like the post from one playerstating that she needed her team to lift her up.  The captains also noted how much she liked the angel of the week from 2 years ago and decided to bring it to her team.  This team was also the first to get a team picture on the wordpress site, which seemed to motivate others to do so!  Lastly, this team earned a place in my heart at the captains meeting when they took an earlier project week to help out a rooky captain,  Jodi notes, in Roman times, Centurions were hand picked by their commander for their valor.  She has chosen to highlight Greg and Jane for an outstanding week and detail why they were chosen!

Virtual Warriors- This name fits this team very well and deciding to set up a Facebookpage to share information was brilliant given they are spread between 3 statesJ Loved the pictures of the meals and the team bonding.  I also like that this team has recognized that they have different fitness goals and limitations and will measure their success individually.   They are building their fitness each week (great way to avoid injury and build confidence!)

Danielle Clay- This team is putting serious thought into a name and hasn’t found the right one yet.  They have set daily physical goals and are being accountable to one another.  I also like that they have already set the goal to continue healthy practices, throughout the competition and beyond.  They seem to be very motivated by the accountability to one another and have great plans to stay motivated throughout the competition.

Team 7 (this is their name) also has a theme to take them through he next 8 weeks.  Team is incorporating the 7 Habits of Highly effective/healthy people, building each week, with a new habit.  This week they are taking the initiative to be active and make good food choices (and log them).  This team also created their own assessment (that I may have to steal) and will be tracking improvement over the next 8 weeks.  I love that the assessment incorporates, speed, endurance, and strength, well done!  My favorite thing that I have seen it the contest thus far is the picture of Team 7.  They are holding an item that they would like to fit into at the end of the contest.  I love this visual and tangible goal and that this team recognizes that the scale is not the only indicator of success!  Lastly, this team has been recognizing the success of other participants throughout the week with a 7 second shout out!  Just an email to say, we noticed you did a great job with…  They even pointed out a few things that I had missed!

Mission Slimpossible- Heidi (a rooky to the contest) and has stepped up to be captain). This team dedicated to their teammates how many pounds they wanted to lose and how many workouts it would take them to get there.  While you all set weigh and workout goals, I really like that this team pledged their losses to one another.  The captain sent each team mate a toolbox, to help them meet their goals.  They are planning to recognize and reward other participants that they catch working hard.  In addition they are offering a free spring bootcamp to the team member that they vote to be the hardest working (what a wonderful prize)!  Overall, this team seems very positive and enthusiastic!

Brandon’s Brigade- This team has strategized on how they can best utilize each other’s strengths.  To help with healthy eating, they shared ideas for healthy snacks and meals.  They also executed a team workout that Incorporated both cardio and core.  I also like that this team is attempting to include their children into their

Well word just in from secret judge (you will NEVER guess) helped me to not have a tie for week one like I was planing on!
* Note while I LOVE the FB pages and that I am included in them.  I decided it would not be fair to include all that I read on the pages to determine the winner,  as I indicated that would be from your write ups.  I must admit, if I did that, the outcome would be different.  Captain feel free to summarize or pick favorite posts  in your write ups!

1- 4-2011

76 participants will be competing in this years Winter Contest

All participants were measured for weight and body fat and asked to approximate how many times a week they would be willing to workout

7 Captains strategize to create teams

The 7 teams will work together for 8 weeks to accumulate workouts, lose weight and body fat.

Each team will come up with a team name.

Workouts will be tracked beginning January 8th.  Weeks will run from Sunday to Saturday and reports will due into kellysbootcamp@gmail.com inbox by Monday at noon.  Team mates may all share in in reporting.  The subject of each email  should include Week# and team name.

Reports will include pounds lost/gained for each individual as well as number of 45 minutes for the week.  You are only allowed to count one 45 minute workout a day for 6 days.  Workouts must feel like exercise but can be broken down into shorter time segments.

25% of the contest is judged on how you work together as a team.  Each week, the captains will send a summary of your week, which may include team mate testimonials.  The summary must be 200 words or less and present an idea of how you are utilizing your team’s strategy  and or support to work towards your goals.

The summaries will be compared and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be rewarded each week.  I will be looking for strategizes that make sense for your teams goals and demonstrate you are helping and encouraging your team mates.  10% of the contest results will be based on these scores.

In summary the  winning team is determined by rankings in all 4 categories.  25% is based on percent of weight loss; 25% is based on body fat; 25% is based on reported workouts; and 25% is based on teamwork.  The teamwork piece is being weighted a little differently this year.  10% will be based on our weekly write ups and 15% is based on a team “project”.  The project can be anything…it can be a challenge that you  issue to all the other teams, it can be an event, it can be something ongoing, etc.   Each team was given a week for their project (should they decide to issue a challenge or host an event).
